Knowing history, learning resilience

Thanks to The Nation for putting up this slide show of twentieth century progressives. I think sometimes that we may be — partially? — aware of the racists, the fascists, the others who contribute to systemic oppressions, but we rarely know about those who have systematically fought against various oppressions. We need to learn these stories! How many of these people do you know?
