Out Beyond

One of the reasons I love teaching so much comes from what I learn. It’s a natural place to be, if you want to keep learning — find a place where you’re involved in teaching. And one of the gifts right now, for me, comes from reading my students’ blogs. They’re always finding interesting things to comment on and point to. For instance, today I was reading about the release of a new album by Stefan Van Voorst (a worship leader at the Church of the Open Door in Maple Grove). He talks about where the title song of the album, Out Beyond, comes from, explaining that it’s from a poem by Rumi. In searching for the original poem by Rumi, I came upon yet another album of music that seeks to go “out beyond” — and in this case, it’s linking its work to that of others who are seeking nonviolent solutions to various global conflicts.
