Pondering Egypt
Here are some pieces that Alex collected at school — he’s taking a course on peace studies right now, where they are talking about Egypt a lot — and I think they’re all worth reading:
- nonviolence and the youth movement in Egypt
- a reflection on what's happening by Stephen Nunes (a professor of politics and middle eastern studies)
- another piece by Stephen Nunes which takes up the differences between the Bush admin. and the Obama admin. on interpretation of human rights.
- Gene Sharp's book (a free download) on moving from dictatorship to democracy
</ul>
This last piece, the book, is one of those rare guidebooks that's been translated into multiple languages and used in multiple settings. There's also a nice piece on Gene Sharp in the NYTimes this week.
