Help Avalon school

So here’s the thing: budget cuts in the St. Paul School District (and statewide) are making it really tough for schools to carry on. As you can see, if you’ve been reading this blog, I LOVE the Avalon School. I think it’s an amazing place of learning and community. Here’s a request from Kevin Ward, one of the advisors and a language arts teacher at Avalon:

Hello, friends. Due to budget cuts, I will not be purchasing any books next year for seminars … However, if you would like to make a donation of a book you already have, here’s what we need for American Studies:
  • The Life of an American Slave as Written by Himself — Frederick Douglass
  • The Great Gatsby — F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • The Things They Carried — Tim O’Brien
  • A People’s History of the United States — Howard Zinn

If you have these books at home, have borrowed books from Avalon, or find yourself in a Half-Price Books this summer, please send the book or books to us (Avalon School, 1745 University Avenue W. St. Paul, MN 55104). I will be in school most of the summer.

I’m sure they’d be willing to accept Amazon.com gift certificates, if you feel so inclined.
