Interesting take on Avatar

/ 22 December 2009

We went as a family to see Avatar this weekend. It’s the first time in a very long time that we’ve gone to a movie that actually was sold out when we got there. It was beautiful eye candy, luscious music, and at least in some ways a compelling story. But while I definitely think it’s worth seeing in a cinema, I’m not convinced it’s the greatest movie of all time? It’s possible that the headache I gained from watching the movie (I’m not a big fan of 3D films), could be clouding my judgment. But basically I felt a bit cheated in terms of learning anything real about the Nav’vi — including any sense of their alienness. Here’s a review piece that actually resonates with me, and I think helps to explain some of what I was feeling.
