I have not been writing about the situation in the middle east because I have not had anything useful to say about it. Even people who know far more about the situation and context find themselves speechless. I have been reading a lot, however, and praying for peace. Today I am in tears at these stories. I think it’s really important to recognize that much of the American media are not covering the situation with any kind of fairness. I long ago gave up on objectivity, but fairness still seems appropriate. Here’s an interesting analysis offered up by AlJazeera-English online. I realize that most people will not regard that source as authoritative in any way, but I think the analysis — along with the evidence provided — is useful reading. Hat tip to Andrew Sullivan for the link. There is also this useful set of google earth images, for making clear how small an area we’re talking about.
