RIP: Bill Placher

/ 6 December 2008

I hardly know how to share this news, as I feel like I just talked with him, but Bill Placher has died from a heart attack while on sabbatical in Collegeville. His memorial service will be held today, in Crawfordsville, IN.

Bill was a central presence in the development of the Wabash Center, as well as a gifted theologian. I use one of his books - a small one called Struggling With Scripture -- in many of my classes, and students respond to it eagerly. I do not think I can adequately note how much his work has had an impact on me, but I hope to continue to introduce students to it. In the meantime, please hold his family in your prayers.
