Photos from Hiroshima
When was I in college we regularly commemorated Hiroshima (Aug. 6) and Nagasaki (Aug. 9) days with peace protests (one year we even occupied the New Haven Green for a few nights). My senior year we had a Japanese exchange student working with us, and when she returned home she sent us some of the Japanese commemorative posters. I’ve always wondered why so few people seem aware of these days, and even fewer mark them. One reason might be that we have very little photographic evidence available to us, to help us re-member that time. Here is a photo-blog essay that talks about some found photos (sharing a few of them), and exploring the silence around the US use of atom bombs. (Hat tip to Andrew Sullivan)
