US Bishops on voting
I’ve already blogged about the document on faithful citizenship that the USCCB have put out as a guide for voting. Here’s a great “cliff’s note” guide to it (hat tip to Whispers in the Loggia) To summarize the 10 tips it offers:
- Not all issues are equal
- You have to work to become informed
- God speaks through our hearts and minds
- Fidelity to conscience is more important than party loyalty
- Simplistic reasoning is simple-minded
- Gut feelings may be your conscience speaking
- Politics is the art of the possible
- Your neighbor can be an ocean away
- The political process begins long before you pull the lever in the voting booth
- We hear God in prayer
