St. Patrick
It bugs me that St. Patrick’s day seems to be all about drinking yourself into oblivion and green beer. How about remembering a little bit about who he was in the first place? Here’s one post from someone who links him to peace and reconciliation. And here’s the wikipedia version. I’m not entirely sure I "buy" all of these, given that some of his impact clearly had to do with the demise of the Druids, but still, it’s worth thinking about the saint whose day this is.

Dagmar commented on 18 March 2008:not to mention that st. patrick was a roman. so......perhaps it would make more sense to honor st. bridget in such spectacular ways .
furthermore bridget compared the pleasures of spiritual ecstacy with being afloat in seas of beer :) just like later on teresa of avila compared the delights of contemplation of finding herself in a secret wine cellar drunk on good wine.
happy holy week
