10 Songs about God
I think this might be a new "meme" of sorts. Or at least I’m going to coax my class into considering picking up the idea for their own blogs. What would be your list of 10 songs about God (hat tip to U2 sermons)? Here are ten off the top of my own list: the entire album The Rising by Bruce Springsteen, Where is the love? by the Blackeyed Peas, Jesus Walks by Kanye West, Like a Prayer by madonna, Grace by U2, God’s Song by Randy Newman, Why Shouldn’t We? by Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Rebel Jesus by Jackson Browne and The Chieftains, Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day, All That We Let In, by The Indigo Girls, and Jesus Christ by U2.

This is great, Mary. Here's my list:
Redemption Song – Bob Marley
Imagine – John Lennon
Hallelujah – Martin Sexton
Reason to Believe – Bruce Springsteen
Gate Gate – Marty Haugen and Marc Anderson
Gloria – U2
Prince of Darkness - Indigo Girls
Closer to the Heart – RUSH
Ella's Song – Sweet Honey in the Rock
Sita Ram – Jai Uttal
I imposed the Rob Flemming (from Nick Hornby's High Fidelity) rule for compilation tapes rules though: no more than one song by any artist - made it tough - and only 10 songs - made it tougher. For example Jesus of Suburbia didn't make it, neither did Jokerman by Bob Dylan. Jesus by Velvet Underground-another nice one.
Peace,
Tony
