Boyer model for tenure

/ 2 October 2007

Inside Higher Ed is pointing to Western Carolina University’s decision to use a broader range of “work” for what “counts” in tenure decisions. WCU is explicitly trying to build off Ernest Boyer’s ideas from Scholarship Reconsidered, where what “counts” includes teaching, engagement with knowledge production in the wider community, and so on. I have a hunch that many seminaries are already doing more of this than universities are, but we rarely claim it. I think we should, and we should be much more clear about why we’re doing so.
