Scholarly approaches to open access

There’s a controversy brewing over certain publishers’ attempts to head off open access initiatives (the project against open access is called PRISM). I’m not sure I understand all of it yet, but there’s a very helpful blog post over at MediaCommons that summarizes and links to lots of pertinent info.
