Remembering what’s important
I’ve had two quite awful days, packed from dawn to late night with work, no time to breathe, and one colleague convinced that I’ve deliberately tried to disrespect his work. I came home tonight close to tears, and opened up my news reader because it’s got 467 unread messages in it. I only looked at a few — but I’m glad I did, because this piece by Meta reminded me of why I’m in this "business" in the first place, and what really matters. If I can provide room for just one student to be able to grow into this kind of ministry, I’ve done good work.

Scharen commented on 22 December 2006:Sorry to hear about the bad days, Mary. I sent you our wacky Christmas card today, and I hope it brings a smile when it arrives. I've decided why I like "River" so much on Wintersongs--it is because, while not religious, it brings out the lament that so many feel at this time of 'forced joy.' Why not say the truth--that Advent is full of terror, and Christmas, for many, full of deep sadness even if still also joy.
Thanks for your honesty, and for sharing here.
Peace,
Chris
