Why net neutrality matters

/ 23 April 2006

Joho has an excellent, clear and concise post on why it’s CRITICAL to keep the net infrastructure neutral. In other words, the people who provide connections to the Internet don’t get to favor some bits over others. Most of us are only just learning how to navigate the internet, we haven’t given any thought to how it was built. One metaphor that I’ve heard people use is to compare phone lines to cable television. The phone companies don’t get to control what goes over their lines, cable television operators DO. We want phone rules for the net, not cable rules. Joho has another post that includes links to organizations who are working this issue. There’s also much more information — as well as a petition you can sign — at Moveon’s site. Act now!
