Good political news from Texas

/ 14 March 2006

Ok, that’s not the kind of headline you’re likely to read in my blog, right? But take a gander at the dailyKos post about the new book tour that Kos is on:

"And then, to my utter shock, these groups agreed to share each others mailing lists. Organizations have traditionally locked those lists in their deepest, darkest, most secure vault. It's the source of their fundraising solicitations, their most prized possession. And here they had realized that they were being ill-served by hoarding that info. As one participant from a major women's organization said, "Really, at this point what do we have to lose?"

So there is hope. I'm under no illusions that Crashing the Gate or our little speech was the deciding factor in what is spectacularly good news for Texas progressives. That credit goes to Rick Perry and the Republicans trashing Austin and the rest of the state. But by highlighting the success story in Colorado, perhaps we gave them hope that unity did have its own rewards."

We all need to remind ourselves that local, grassroots organizing can make a real difference!
