Thoughts on Luther Seminary

/ 17 February 2006

This has been a tough year for Luther in a lot of ways, starting with my friend and colleague, Richard Wallace’s untimely death in late August. I’ve gotten way too many emails to respond to, after the recent events of this past week. But I want to say here, very strongly and clearly, that Luther Seminary is a wonderful place. As we live through the difficult challenges of this year, our faculty is becoming a closer and ever more faith-filled group. My mother-in-love, Dagmar Celeste, is fond of pointing out that the most painful moment of birth is that of transition, right before one begins to push. But as painful as transition is, it generally gives way to the joy of new life. We are experiencing much new life at Luther these days, and for that I give thanks to God.
