Critical thinking

/ 26 August 2005

David Stewart and I have agreed, somewhat quixotically (because how much can we do in 50 minutes?), to talk about critical thinking during First Week at Luther. The best part of it all for me has been the getting the chance to know David better — he’s got a wonderful sense of humor, and a great openness and responsiveness to student learning. Anyway, in the process, Alice Loddigs helped us a find a ton of useful resources online. We can’t possibly use them all, but I didn’t want to lose them. So I’ll note them here:

wwwtools for education : a great overview site, rich in links

Infotrac's piece on critical thinking : useful because it provides some distinctions between various elements of critical reasoning (not necessarily the same thing as reflective judgement, but perhaps an important component)

a fun set of logic games and other puzzles

a great site on critical thinking online

a very robust definition of critical thinking

some examples of critical thinking questions
