Sleepy thoughts
Eric just took the kids off to see the fireworks. I can’t muster any enthusiasm for them this year. Somehow seeing "bombs bursting in the air" does not elicit much interest for me at a time in which very real bombs, paid for with my tax dollars, are going off in the middle east.
I’m tired and ready to go to sleep, but couldn’t resist a quick glance at my news reader, where I found AKMA musing on his upcoming address to the Ekklesia project. I like where he’s going as he thinks about the first three commandments. When I’m not so tired I want to return to his post and reflect on it.

Ryan Torma commented on 05 July 2005:Just a point of hope. I went to the fireworks at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis and it was great. For music there was a punk band known as the Prophets and a gospel/blues group (didn't catch the name). On the food area there was the obligatory mini donuts but also a taquito stand and a vegan cart. I saw a more diverse concentration of nationalities than maybe I've ever seen before. Then, during the fireworks, I heard a man behind me talking to his son, with an accent as though english was not his native language. Seeing particular burst of color, he said "Look, the red, white and blue." The colors of my home were his as well. And what seemed to be pride in his voice, he was telling his son about it.
Sure this place is screwed up, and in more ways than one. On our better days though, Lady Liberty still takes in the poor, the huddled masses, the opressed and gives them a place to call home.
