Too busy to blog

/ 3 July 2005

Ach… it’s been a very busy several days. I’m trying to scrape and repaint our front porch — a task that is taking far longer than I anticipated, and for which I have very little skill. Nathaniel’s fighting a summer flu, and he’s cooped up at home being cranky and grumpy. Tomorrow’s the 4th of July, and I can’t bring myself to feel much like celebrating it. What does it mean to “celebrate freedom” when we’re actually, deliberately, intentionally eroding freedom both here and abroad, all in the name of security? The Live8 concert took place yesterday, and I hope has managed to raise some consciousness amongst folk who were otherwise oblivious. (Tangentially, it is being noted that if the original LiveAid concert helped “make MTV” this one is making clear how much better the Net is at mediating this kind of event.) And in the midst of all of this I’m trying to also get my thoughts around two new pieces of research I’m working on… oh dear. Isn’t summer supposed to be slower in pace?
