Teaching as performance

I’ve argued in a number of places that teaching is a “performative practice.” Today I stumbled across an essay in First Monday by Doug Brent that explores that notion in a variety of really interesting ways, drawing in particular on the work of Ong and others who are thinking about culture and technology.
