Crash

/ 7 May 2005

I just got back from seeing the movie Crash with Eric. It’s one of the most powerful movies I’ve seen in a long time, and we couldn’t stop talking about it, thinking about it, feeling it through dinner and all the way home. What is it about? Small, graced moments of transcendence in spite of human brokenness. Systemic racism. The destructive power of fear. I won’t say more here, because I don’t want to frame the viewing for people more than that. But go see it. It is definitely worth it. (But it is not a film for children.) I hope it comes out in DVD before next fall, because I’d like to assign it for one of my classes to view.
