Urgent action alert

/ 30 March 2005

Lutheran World Relief is sending out an urgent action alert (.doc format), to take note of the rapidly increasing violence in Colombia. In particular, they are asking that people call and write appropriate authorities (see the alert) to ask for more investigation of violence within, and support for, the community of San José de Apartadó, which is a community founded as a peace community.

Among the victims of the brutal murders that took place there recently are several children ranging in age from 2 to 17. In the midst of all the violence in the world, it may seem difficult to take notice of yet another murder. But in this case world wide attention can really make the difference, and further, this community was founded as a deliberate, nonviolent and conscious effort to work towards peace in a troubled region. Please read the alert and write letters! Even an email to your members of Congress would help.

Other sites where you can track the issue include: the Fellowship of Reconciliation, Peace Brigades Columbia Project, Amnesty International, the Latin American working group, and the Center for International Policy Columbia program. Please take five minutes now to take action!
