Read Haight

The Revealer notes that the Vatican has just issued what amounts to an invitation to read Dr. Haight’s book, Symbol of God. That is, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (formerly known as the inquisition), has put him on record that he ought not to be teaching in a Catholic university until "his positions are corrected." The Revealer calls him a professor at Union Theological in NYC, which is news to me, because previously he taught at the Jesuit school in Boston. In any case, his book is dense, thoroughly argued, and still a bit over my head. But the Vatican’s condemnation is reason enough for me to take it out again, and try to understand his argument.

Roger was ordered to stop teaching at Weston a few years ago. So Union has taken him in; but he is just an adjunct there.

There's probably a bunch of stuff in the NCR archive if you want more details of his ordeal... It's been going on several years, since the book came out. And yes, I agree with you that it's dense!
