Pew Internet survey of artists and musicians

/ 6 December 2004

The Pew Project on the Internet and American Life has just released the report of a survey — it may be the first such survey done with any real rigor — on the attitudes of artists and musicians towards the Internet (in particular, issues of file sharing and the digital marketplace). It’s a fascinating read, not the least because:

"Across the board, among those who are both successful and struggling, the artists and musicians we surveyed are more likely to say that the internet has made it possible for them to make more money from their art than they are to say it has made it harder to protect their work from piracy or unlawful use."
