Petition to stop the genocide in the Sudan

/ 28 June 2004

The DCCC is circulating a petition calling for concrete action to stop the genocide in Sudan. You may not have read much about what is happening in the Darfur region, but it is painful and ugly and tragic. You may feel like there’s not much that can be done, but there are a few concrete steps we can take, including imposing sanctions and urging the UN Security Council to pass a resolution authorizing a peacekeeping force to facilitate emergency assistance. MoveOn.org is also calling for action, and has an extensive FAQ and other information at their site. Meanwhile, the American Friends Service Committee has an excellent site with information about Africa more generally, and the Center for American Progress is tracking newspaper editorials on the issue from around the world.
