And if you want an example of what may be the worst kind of politics, Sojourners points to the way in which congressional Democrats are holding up a bill (the CARE act) which tries to spur charitable gift-giving, fund programs to promote economic self-sufficiency for low-income families, etc. etc. by way of protest from their systematic exclusion from conference committees. It’s a valid thing to protest, but could they have picked a different bill on which to make a stand? Jim Wallis makes this point compellingly.
