Prosumer approaches to new media composition

KAIROS, which is a “journal of rhetoric, technology and pedagogy” has a fabulous project up in its current issue (8.1, Spring 2003). Produced (ie. written, developed, etc.) by Daniel Anderson, it’s entitled “Prosumer approaches to new media composition: consumption and production in continuum.” It not only does an excellent and concise job of explaining how media literacy is really best pursued through production of media, not simply “learning about” media, but itself creates an engaging and thorough approach to multi-media learning. It will take a while to download the quicktime (it’s 28 mb), but it is WELL worth it. Anderson reminds me, yet again, of how very eager I am to be able to invite students into their own production of new media. We just don’t have the equipment yet at Luther to make that possible…
