Art reflecting life? or too many convergences?
One late night note: all week long I’ve been working on a class presentation that combines the Frontline documentary “Merchants of Cool,” the movie “Josie and the Pussycats,” and Avril Lavigne’s music video of “Complicated.”
Part of the point of the presentation is to track the ways mass mediated pop culture picks up on “cool” trends and sells them back to people. Then, lo and behold, as I’m doing some late night reading of friends’ blogs — partly to learn how to use my own! — I happen upon AKMA’s mention of the Raging Cow boycott. Yet another perfect example of a big corporate entity picking up on a trend (in this case, blogs) to try and sell product.
