Role plays in Christian education

/ 24 June 2014

I’ve long used role plays in my classes in Christian education. I try to get students to imagine themselves into situations in which they have to explain a theological idea or practice — baptism, for instance — in a different settings. Today I happened across an essay by a former student who is reflecting both on what he learned in CPE (clinical pastoral education, often done in hospitals) and what he is beginning to learn through what he names CEE (clinical evangelistic education). I’m not sure I’d use such a laden term for it (“evangelism” means many different things to different people), but then again, I suppose “Christian education” is also a pretty loaded term. Whatever the case, I think the essay is a good example of adult faith formation in action and I commend his reflections to you!
