Needing to remember beauty this morning

“We protect what we fall in love with.” I needed this TED video, especially today. I’ve been sitting in tears, having just read this Rolling Stone article on the challenges of being an LBGTQ kid in the Anoka-Hennepin school district. It may well be worse there than in other districts — I certainly hope that we’re doing a better job in EMID! But I think Louie Schwartzberg is right: “we protect what we fall in love with,” and I think there are too many people who are unwilling to risk falling in love — as friends, as family, as neighbors — with people they have identified as “other.”
