Advent resources

It’s that time of year again, and I want to re-post (because the links have changed), some important resources. The first is an alternative set of lyrics for the hymn “O come, o come Emmanuel” that gets rid of the supersessionism typically embedded therein. You can find the alternative lyrics at the Boston College Center for Christian-Jewish Learning.

The second piece, related to that, is this set of guidelines for preaching that was originally promulgated by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops back in 1988.

And then, just because I care about these two Advent songs and want to continue to introduce people to them, are the hymns "Each winter as the year grows older" and "Warm the time of winter." There's too much beautiful music and thoughtful reflection available during Advent to descend into Christmas commercialism too early...
