Pastoral transitions in an age of social media

/ 2 June 2011

I admit it: I’ve been much annoyed by some of the more stringent restrictions various synods have put on our interns concerning their use of facebook. I don’t think that simply telling people to go “cold turkey” and remove themselves from facebook while they’re on internship makes any sense in this day and age. On the other hand, it’s not as if there is already well established practice for engaging social media.

Here's one of the first thoughtful pieces I've seen by a pastor reflecting on how he and his congregation imagine his transition from their community, even while they are a vividly "social media engaged" group of folk.
