More great questions

/ 5 January 2010

I regularly use Stephen Brookfield’s “critical incident questionnaire” in my classes. The five questions he asks there —

  • when were you most engaged?
  • when were you most distanced?
  • what action was affirming?
  • what action was puzzling?
  • what was surprising? </ul> are a great way to "take the temperature" of a class, and get a sense of what is going unsaid, or might be brewing for later discussion. Here's another great set of questions I just happened upon, that might be worth sharing across and between classes:
    • What are you working on this week?
    • What question has been top of mind for you this week?
    • How have you been learning or sharing learning this week?
    • What are you most grateful for this week? </ul>
