US Bishops on voting

/ 27 September 2008

I’ve already blogged about the document on faithful citizenship that the USCCB have put out as a guide for voting. Here’s a great “cliff’s note” guide to it (hat tip to Whispers in the Loggia) To summarize the 10 tips it offers:

  • Not all issues are equal
  • You have to work to become informed
  • God speaks through our hearts and minds
  • Fidelity to conscience is more important than party loyalty
  • Simplistic reasoning is simple-minded
  • Gut feelings may be your conscience speaking
  • Politics is the art of the possible
  • Your neighbor can be an ocean away
  • The political process begins long before you pull the lever in the voting booth
  • We hear God in prayer
