World Environment Day

/ 5 June 2007

Sorry for the long silence! I’ve been recovering my health very, very slowly, and blogging (not to mention email more generally) just hasn’t been an option. Today, however, I’m feeling a little bit better and it seemed important to note that June 5th (today) is World Environment Day. That link will lead you to some useful liturgical resources, aimed at encouraging liturgies which enact the following:

  • wonder and thankfulness when standing face to face with the infinite variety of creation
  • sorrow and recognition of responsibility in the face of environmental challenges
  • solidarity and love when face to face with the world that God loves
  • hope and action when faced with the responsibility God has given us towards the creation and towards one another.

These are all powerful gospel imperatives, and I very much appreciate that the WCC is providing resources to help local congregations respond.
