LInks from the Anglican debates

/ 22 February 2007

One of the few news stories here that was widely covered in ways in which I could catch a glimpse of understanding (my grasp of the German language is still very bad), was the recent meeting in Tanzania of primates from the Anglican communion. There were stark headlines here, and “breaking news” stories about the potential for schism, on the subway plasma screens. What didn’t come through to me was any of the counter story, any of the reasons why many people within the communion (and not simply those in North America!) are supporting full inclusion in the church. So here are some links off to pieces that do so:

  • a current priest's reflection on the issues
  • a much more militant retired priest's reflection
  • a piece from the Guardian, via the Episcopal news service
  • </ul>

I think it's important to remember that there are multiple voices in the Anglican Communion who are struggling with these issues, and that the mainstream news media are not likely to be very helpful in the process.
