Black history month

/ 24 February 2006

Every so often it’s worth repeating that in the ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES there have only been five senators who are African Americans. FIVE. Yes, it’s Black history month. And yes, we ought to be weaving these stories throughout US history, more than simply marking them one month out of twelve. Given that we haven’t done so yet, here are few nice resources on the web, including a set of slave narratives (and related resources), Black women’s history resources, creative folk in Black history, iBiblio’s resources, religion resources, overcoming white privilege, the Minnesota Anti-racism Collaborative Initiative, and so on. Check them out, and share them!
