hurrah for the Scottish Episcopal church

/ 25 March 2005

Apparently it has long been the policy of the Scottish Episcopal church that there is no bar to ordination of people in close relationships with people of the same sex:

"In referring to the fact that there is no current bar to ordination for someone who might be in a close relationship with a member of the same sex, the Bishops were simply stating the present position as it applies in Scotland where, unlike some other provinces, no motion discouraging such ordinations has ever been passed by our General Synod."

Isn’t it interesting how we only tend to hear about the churches where such policies have created huge divisiveness — not those where it is simply part and parcel of Christian commitment to love and justice?
