Celebrate Selma, defend voting rights

/ 3 March 2005

Jesse Jackson is eloquent: the best way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Selma voting rights march is to support the “Count Every Vote” legislation. Now that I’m 42 years old, 40 years doesn’t seem like a very long time ago. I wish it was hard to imagine back that far, and that the abuses of the time were a distant memory, but quite frankly, African American voters are still being disqualified improperly from voting. And this reality is shameful. Call your Congresspeople and ask that they support the act.
