Theology of the cross

/ 6 April 2004

Mel’s film has brought the conversation over why Jesus died into a bigger public space, and this week’s issue of Time Magazine takes it on, as does last night’s Peter Jennings’ special. I’m indebted to Mary Hinkle for pointing me off to a short Douglas John Hall piece that gets at some of the issues of a “theology of the cross.” I heard him do something similar to this piece two years ago at the AAR/SBL meeting, and I’ve wanted it in print ever since. I’m psyched to have found it in this brief a format.
