Staying involved for Dean

/ 23 February 2004

Today I was reading the weblog of one of the people whose comments on the Dean weblog I always respected and thought were profound. She’s put up the lyrics to an Eric Clapton song, and I can hear echoes of the song in my head. It is really hard to figure out what to do in this election process. Our caucuses, here in Minnesota, are on March 2nd. There’s an important meeting coming up where a lot of the local grassroots Dean people are going to listen to people from the other campaigns, and think about what we should do. In the meantime, I’m hanging in for Dean. He’s still on our ballot, and since I do not have strong feelings either way for the rest of the candidates — but I do for Dean — at this point I’m still committed to trying to get him some more delegates for the convention in Boston. It’s funny — Dean is probably one of the least liberal of the candidates in this pack, but the group of people campaigning on his behalf, his presence in person, and the ways in which he shapes his commitments have all gotten to me. Whomever you care for, you should go out and support them locally. For me, for now, it’s still Dean. (And here’s a video that reminds me of why.)
