Mary Hinkle points off to Joyce McGreevey’s “satirical” take on a passage from Luke. “And it came to pass, that the Recovery would come upon the land, but still Joe and Marie did not have jobs. In those days it was as if there had been a decree that people should take leave of their senses throughout the entire American world.” My apologies, but you’ll have to wade through a “free day pass” at Salon to get to the whole piece, but I think it’s worth it. More and more we have to find ways to make our religious discourse (at least those of us who care about that language, and find it powerful), connect to our material realities. This piece does.
