Dean on racism

/ 12 December 2003

I have written before about how inspired I’ve been by Howard Dean’s willingness to name institutionalized racism as an issue we need to confront together as a country. Now Mary’s blog points off to another substantial discussion of Dean’s stand on addressing racism, courtesy of the Black Commentator. I must admit that I am finding myself inspired! And that also leads me to more than a moment of fear… given the past history of political assassinations in this country. Still, in a time of Advent it is worth reflecting on the need to address our deep sinfulness, and I can’t think of a more deep, enduring and systemic sin in this country than that of racism.
