State of the Onion

Ever since the Eric Raymond “Cathedral and Bazaar” essay was published on the net, lo these many years ago, I have been interested in the more philosophical musings of people who regularly code software — particularly in the open source movement. Yesterday a friend forwarded to me Larry Wall’s latest “state of the onion” address, which is aimed at the evolution of perl (a language in which software is written). I highly recommend it, particularly since it includes a series of well done slides that illustrate his argument in important ways.
