Int’l Day of Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition

/ 23 August 2011

So today is a day of international remembrance of the slave trade and its abolition. I’m only now finding this out — at 10:15 pm at night — which is perhaps an indication of how little we, in the US at least, take this remembrance seriously. If you haven’t already seen it, I think today would be a great day to watch the film Traces of the Trade. I learned more about the slave trade in the northern US than I had ever learned before from that film, and it was done by a seminarian (so it’s worth supporting her!).
