Using Bible versions publicly

/ 27 October 2009

Does anybody out there have specific information about reading the Bible publicly, outside of worship, in terms of copyright? I have a student whose church wants to record various members reading sections of the Bible, and then putting those recordings up on their website in mp3 form for members of the church to download and listen to, free of charge. I happen to think this is a great idea! And a project that all members of a church could be involved in, in some way. But the student is worried about the copyright consequences. The standard clauses (go here, click on the specific translation and scroll down), do not seem to apply. But surely reading the Bible in public is not an act that can be limited via copyright?

Hence my question: anyone have any specific experience with a case like this?
