Cross — the pain stops here

TheCorner has a great post with which to begin one’s lenten journey. Here’s a taste, but read the whole thing:

The pain stops here. The pain I turn a blind eye to in others, the pain I work hard to run from, the pain I dare not show anyone including myself. Millions are sick or under attack or without a home or even a next meal - pain is not some theory or mental construct. People are hurting - I am hurting.

The Jesus story steps through the cross, showing us that despair & disillusionment are not dead ends, but oftentimes signs of impending resurrection. The cross is like some huge anvil that smashes the illusion that is packaged as "the world", the conventional wisdom that we use to stay away from liberation and freedom.
