Support for impeachment growing

/ 8 July 2007

I’ve noted in here before the various calls to impeach the president and vice-president. Now I can point to some vigorous support. Consider this impassioned op-ed by a Minneapolis writer, or this piece by an LA writer. Sure, there are tons of documents written by scholars, lawyers, and activists. But I think it may be the calls by ordinary citizens, people talking to their neighbors and friends, after church coffee hour conversations, and so on, that could make the difference. And I think it’s crucial to note that impeaching the president does not necessarily convict him — it’s simply a key step in getting a process going that can investigate what’s happening.

Frank Rich has noted the cowardice implicit in Bush's actions. Will we be cowards too? Or can we find real ways to take real action through the democratic institutions this country was built on?
