New York State court supports gay marriage

Hurray for the New York state court!

A New York State court ruled today that same-sex couples must be allowed to marry, in a decision that Lambda Legal called “a historic ruling that delivers the state Constitution’s promise of equality to all New Yorkers.” Lambda Legal filed the lawsuit last year, representing five same-sex couples seeking marriage licenses in New York City.

I realize that this ruling will add fuel to the fire of conservatives who are arguing that such actions are judicial activism. But that is a term that can be applied on all ends of the ideological spectrum, and in this case the court is seeking to prevent unfair discrimination -- which seems to me what most constitutions are all about.
